Choosing a contractor you can trust with your most valuable possession can be a scary proposition.

As always Sands Enterprises hopes to earn your trust and be your local contracting choice. The most important part of your next construction project will be to hire the right contractor. Most of our local contractors around the Midlands of South Carolina and not only friends of mine but great people that serve our profession well. BUT as with all professions we do have some “fly by night” types. Here are some ways to help you avoid making the wrong choice for your next project weather it be big or small from roofing to full rebuild these tips will help you find the RIGHT fit for you.

  1. Ask to visit a current job site or speak to a current customer. If you get to visit a job site check to see how clean the work area is. (That will tell you a lot about what your job site will look like)
  2. Don’t be afraid to ask about finances. Your contractor should be able to front at least 1/3 of the cost of projects of 50,000.00 or more. Any project of 15,000.00 or less and you shouldn’t be asked to pay until completion unless there is some extenuating circumstance.
  3. Never hire someone who asks for money up front!!!!! This is the biggest mistake homeowners make.
  4. MAKE SURE YOU ARE TOTALLY COMFORTABLE WITH YOUR CONTRACTOR. You should have someone who inspires confidence. Someone who is clearly knowledgeable in the type of work your having done.
